Rich's was founded in 1982 by Rich Schmieder, who had a PhD in Geography from Penn State University. Rich was involved with Sid Wilkins in the Executive Placement Business in 1981, when he saw a need for a mapped database of companies in Silicon Valley. The first Rich's Business Directory was produced in 1982. It contained 1,100 companies with locator maps and basic company information.

Joel & Katie Rosenberg took over in 1983 and have expanded the database over the years to 14,000+ High Tech companies in California and 16,000+ Non-Tech companies in the major five Bay Area Counties, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara. In 2005 we acquired Alexander X and have incorporated the California BioScience Database into our product line.

Since 1983, Rich's has been committed to staying on top of the difficult-to-track, small, private, high-tech companies that are the heart of Silicon Valley. In the late 1980's we began to add non high-tech firms, and included both large public companies and smaller privately held firms. Currently we have access to data for all 50 states, both high-technology firms and non high-technology firms

The Rich's California Sales Lead Website was begun in 1992 and has grown as internet technology has expanded. This latest 2007 upgrade includes important capabilities to web users who want quick access to important company information. The 2007 website includes Company Record Views (Capsules), extensive database sort capability, data file downloads, company record information in PDF format, an account area, previous search information, download history and much more.

We are proud of the our tenacious work to find new and emerging companies as well as those that may have been outside our radar over the years.
